After-School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs), serves all 9th-12 graders

SDCOE partners with school districts and charter schools across the county in the implementation of the High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) grant. Districts and charter schools include Escondido Union High School District, Fallbrook Union High School District, Grossmont Union High School District, Mt. Empire Unified School District, Oceanside Unified School District, Ramona Unified School District, San Marcos Unified School District, Sweetwater Union High School District, Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District, Vista Unified School District, and Warner Springs Unified School District as well as Helix Charter, High Tech High Chula Vista, Academic of Arts and Sciences, King-Chavez Community, and The O'Farrell Charter.

38 local high school campuses have created site-specific programs that include tutoring, homework assistance, California High School Exit Exam and college and career prep courses, visual and performing arts, youth leadership, service learning, and physical activity. In addition, the grant will offer family literacy and educational services to support parents of students in the program. Regular participation in high-quality after-school programs is linked to gains in student achievement, increased regular-day attendance, a reduction in behavior problems and increased graduation rates.
